General Rosary Intention: That the Father in His Divine Mercy – through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Mercy, may build up His Kingdom, make these mysteries a reality in our lives, strengthen us in our common mission, and come to the aid of those for whom we pray.

Africa (Green Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Sunniva, who was buried by a landslide, may come to the aid of those affected by flooding and landslides in Ethiopia. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Africa.

Disaster: Flooding and Landslides  Map of Ethiopia Extract from Floods and landslides kill over 100 people in Ethiopia: “About 100 people have been killed by floods and landslides across Ethiopia that started last month, government officials say. At least 20,000 families have been made homeless, according to the UN, while local officials say there are a number of people still missing. Meteorologists blamed the country’s high rainfall on this year’s particularly powerful El Nino. Aid organisations anticipate continued flooding could displace tens of thousands more. ‘People can be affected in different ways. They can have damaged crops, they can lose their livestock, and in the more extreme cases, lose their entire households and go quite really destitute,’ Paul Handley, of the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Ethiopia, said. The floods have also hampered distribution of vital aid to drought-affected areas. The situation is exacerbated because more than 10 million people have been forced to rely on aid after the country suffered its worst drought in decades that lasted at least a year.” Ethiopians die in floods and landslides after heavy rain, Fifty Dead in Ethiopian Floods, Ethiopia flood deaths.

Saint Sunniva, Saint who was buried by a Landslide (Feast Date: July 8) Extract from Saint Sunniva: “Daughter of a tenth century Irish king. To avoid an arranged marriage with an invading pagan king, she, her brother Alban, and several female companions fled her home only to settle in a cave on the island of Selje, off the Norwegian coast. Sometime later, Viking locals decided that the group was stealing cattle, and sent an armed band to attack them. When they arrived, they found the cave sealed by a landslide; none of the group of exiles was ever seen alive again. Years later, around  995, after reports of strange lights in the area, King Olaf Tryggvason had the cave opened; Sunniva’s body was found incorrupt, and the  king built a church there in her honour.” See picture of Saint Sunniva. Oceania (Blue Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of Saint Barbara, Patron Saint against Explosions, may come to the aid of those affected by the gas explosion in Jakarta, Indonesia. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Oceania.

The blast took place at a vacant space beside the Cupbob restaurant on the lower ground level of the mall at 10 a.m, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr.Cmr. Awi Setiyono said. A security officer named Syafrudin who was on patrol in the morning smelled gas from the location and reported to the safety team of the mall management. As staff from the safety team approached the location, the blast occurred. There were around seven people working inside the restaurant when the incident took place, Awi said. The 13 victims suffered burn injuries in the blast, comprising one female and 12 males, he added. South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Cmr. Saint Barbara: Patron Saint against Explosions (Feast Dates: December 4) Extract from Saint Barbara: “A beautiful maiden imprisoned in a high tower by her father Dioscorus for disobedience. While there, she was tutored by philosophers, orators and poets. From them she learned to think, and decided that polytheism was nonsense. With the help of Origen and Valentinian, she converted to Christianity. . . Her association with things military and with death that falls from the sky led to her patronage of all things related to artillery, and her image graced powder magazines and arsenals for years. One of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.”See pictures of Saint Barbara, Prayers to St. Barbara. Saint Barbara.

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Joseph of Cupertino, Patron Saint of Aviation, may come to the aid of those affected by the EgyptAir flight MS804 crash in the Mediterranean Sea. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Europe.

Disaster: EgyptAir flight MS804 Crash  Map of Mediterranean Sea Extract from EgyptAir flight MS804: Wreckage found after missing plane crashed in Mediterranean Sea: “The wreckage of an EgyptAir plane missing over the Mediterranean Sea has been found, with terrorism cited as a more likely cause of the crash than technical failure, according to Egyptian officials. The news came soon after the Greek Defence Minister said the missing aircraft had made ‘sudden swerves’ immediately after it entered Egyptian airspace then dropped 22,000 feet. A child and two babies are among the 66 people on board the Airbus A320, which disappeared from radar early on Thursday morning local time. Flight MS804 took off from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris at 11.09pm on Wednesday (7.09am AEST), and was scheduled to land in Cairo at 3.15am on Thursday. However, it never arrived. Advertisement The Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister, Sherif Fathi, told a news conference in Cairo that it was premature to draw conclusions about the cause of the crash, but he acknowledged that it might be terrorism.” See also: EgyptAir Flight MS804: Timeline of events, EgyptAir flight MS804: Hollande confirms crash – live updates.

Saint Joseph of Cupertino: Patron Saint of Aviation (Feast Date: September 18) Extract from Joseph of Cupertino:  “Joseph’s father, Felice Desa was a poor carpenter who died before the boy was born. Creditors drove his mother, Francesca Panara, from her home, and Joseph was born in a stable. Starting at age eight, he received ecstatic visions that left him gaping and staring into space. He had a hot temper, which his strict mother worked to overcome. . . .He applied to the Capuchins, was accepted as a lay-brother in 1620, but his ecstasies made him unsuitable for work, and he was dismissed. Abused by his family, he continued his prayers, and was accepted as an oblate at the Franciscan convent . . . he became a cleric at 22, a priest at 25. Joseph still had little education, could barely read or write, but received such a gift of spiritual knowledge and discernment that he could solve intricate questions. His life became a series of visions and ecstasies, which could be triggered any time or place by the sound of a church bell, church music, the mention of the name of God or of the Blessed Virgin or of a saint, any event in the life of Christ, the sacred Passion, a holy picture, the thought of the glory in heaven, etc. Yelling, beating, pinching, burning, piercing with needles – none of this would bring him from his trances, but he would return to the world on hearing the voice of his superior in the order. He would often levitate and float (which led to his patronage of people involved in air travel), and could hear heavenly music.  For 35 years he was not allowed to attend choir, go to the common refectory, walk in procession, or say Mass in church. . . . But Joseph retained his joyous spirit, submitting to Divine Providence. See also Picture of St. Joseph of Cupertino, Prayer to Saint Joseph of Cupertino. Saint Joseph of Cupertino.

America (Red Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Mary, Our Lady of the Highways, may come to the aid of those affected by the fatal bus crash in Texas, U.S.A. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in America.

Disaster: Fatal Bus Crash  Map of Texas, U.S.A. Extract from:  Fatalities in Texas bus crash: “Eight people were killed and 44 were hospitalized Saturday after a charter bus left a south Texas highway and rolled over. State Department of Public Safety spokesman Conrad Hein said the bus left Highway 83 in Webb County after the driver apparently lost control. ” See also: Several killed in Texas bus crash, Texas Bus Crash Leaves 8 Dead, Dozens Injured. Saint Mary, Our Lady of the Highways (Feast Date: May 24) Extract from:  History of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Highway:  “On Sunday, June 28, 1936, Father John Joseph McLaughlin, a recently ordained priest from St. Francis Church in New York, assisted Father Giles with the morning Masses. That evening the two priests set out for St. Joseph’s Seminary in Callicoon, New York, to begin their annual retreat. On the way their car was struck by another car. Father John Joseph was killed instantly; Father Giles, however, escaped serious injury. Father Giles was convinced that he owed his life to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin. Just two months previous to the accident he had begun the Miraculous Medal Novena in the parish. In gratitude to Our Lady, Father Giles built a shrine in Mary’s honor in the field across from the original church. It would seem that the original shrine was intended to be a Lourdes Grotto. However, the idea of a Shrine dedicated to Our Lady of the Highway gradually evolved. Father Giles obtained permission from Bishop McLoughlin of Paterson to name the shrine in honor of Our Lady of the Highway. As devotion grew at the little shrine, many persons asked Father to have a special medal struck honoring Our Lady under this title. With the Bishop’s permission a medal was prepared in September 1937, bearing an image of Our Lady and the inscription: ‘Our Lady of the Highway, be with us on our journey; for all thy ways are beautiful and all thy paths are peace.’”  See PICTURE of Our Lady of the Cedars. PRAYER to Our Lady of the Highways.  Our Lady of the Highways.

Asia (Yellow Beads)

Intention – That the Lord Jesus through the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Patron Saint against Lightning, may come to the aid of those affected by the lightening strikes in Bangledesh. May the Lord help all those affected by man-made and natural disasters in Asia.

Disaster: Lightening Strikes Map of Bangladesh  Extract from: Lightning strikes leave 40 dead in Bangladesh: “At least 40 people have been killed by lightning strikes in Bangladesh within 24 hours as violent thunderstorms rumbled across the country. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the storms caused disruption across 14 districts including Dhaka. Their spokesman told DPA news agency that most of the fatalities occurred due to a lack of awareness. Most of the deaths were reported in the capital. The northern districts of Rajshahi, Sirajgani and Pabna were also badly hit. Two 20-year-old students were killed during a football match in Dhaka’s Jatrabari neighboughhood. Eight others were injured as the lightning bolt struck the ground. The Hindu, a daily newspaper, reported that the casualties included a number of children who were playing in open grounds during the rain, but most of the victims were farmers working in their fields. The rains do help to break the intense heat experienced ahead of the monsoon rains. However, the downpours are often accompanied by thunder and lightning.” See also: More than 60 killed by lightning in Bangladesh in two days, Lightning strikes kill 50 in Bangladesh, Lightning strikes kill 65 people in four days in Bangladesh.

Saint Thomas Aquinas:  Patron Saint Against Lightning (Feast Date: January 28) Extract from SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS Doctor of the Church (1225-1274): “The great Saint Thomas was born of noble parents at Aquino near Naples in Italy, in 1225; his century was replete with great names and Christian works, yet he dominates it by the power of his thought and the perfection of his works. In his childhood he was the provider for the poor of the neighborhood during a famine; his father, meeting him in a corridor with the food he had succeeded in taking from the kitchen, asked him what he had under his cloak; he opened it and fresh roses fell on the ground. The nobleman embraced his son and amid his tears, gave him permission to follow thereafter all inspirations of his charity. . . .While Saint Thomas was in confinement at Rocca Secca, his brothers endeavored to entrap him into sin, but the attempt only ended in the triumph of his purity. Snatching from the hearth a burning coal, the Saint drove from his chamber the courtesan whom they had concealed there. Then marking a cross upon the wall, he knelt down to pray. Immediately, while he was rapt in ecstasy, an Angel girded him with a cord, in token of the gift of perpetual chastity which God had given him. The pain caused by the girdle was so sharp that Saint Thomas uttered a piercing cry, which brought his guards into the room. But he never related this grace to anyone save Father Raynald, his confessor, a short time before his death. Thus originated the Confraternity of the Angelic Warfare, for the preservation of the virtue of chastity.”  See PICTURE of St. Thomas Aquinas. PRAYERS to and by St. Thomas Aquinas.
