Extract from St. Michael–Archangel: “In the Apocalypse (chapter xii) we find the most dramatic reference to St. Michael. Here John recounts the great battle in Heaven, when the wicked angels under Lucifer revolt against God, and how Michael, leading the faithful angels, defeats the hosts of evil and drives them out. In this role he has been painted by many artists, and the poet Milton, in book vi of <Paradise Lost>, recounts the famous struggle. Because of this victory, St. Michael is revered in Catholic tradition and liturgy as the protector of the Church, as once he was regarded as the protector of the Israelites. In the Eastern Church, as well as among many theologians in the West, St Michael is placed over all the angels, as prince of the Seraphim. He is the special patron of sick people, mariners, and grocers; in Asia Minor many curative springs were dedicated to him. His cult has also been popular in Egypt, Rome, France, and Germany. His emblems are a banner, a sword, a dragon, and scales.”   See PICTURES of Saint Michael the Archangel.   See also:  Michael (archangel) (Multilingual), St. Michael the Archangel (EN),  Arcángel Miguel (SP),  San Michele Arcangelo (IT), SAINT MICHEL ARCHANGE (FR),  Św. Extract from St. Michael the Archangel: “Leader of the army of God during the Lucifer uprising. Devotion is common to Muslims, Christians and Jews, and there are writings about him in all three cultures. Considered the guardian angel of Israel, and the guardian and protector of the Church. ”See picture of Saint Michael the Archangel, Prayers to St. Michael, and videos:Michael the Archangel, Saint Michael, Prince of Light.

Extract from Saint Michael the Archangel “The name Michael signifies “Who is like to God?” and was the warcry of the good angels in the battle fought in heaven against Satan and his followers. Holy Scripture describes St. Michael as “one of the chief princes,” and leader of the forces of heaven in their triumph over the powers of hell. He has been especially honored and invoked as patron and protector by the Church from the time of the Apostles.” See pictures of Saint Michael, Prayers to St. Michael and video: St. Michael the Archangel.

Extract from Michael the Archangel: “The name of this Archangel means “who is like unto God?” In the Old Covenant he is made known to us as the “great prince,” the protector of the children of Israel (Daniel 12, 1). Through the New Testament the Church continues this patronage of Michael (Revelation 12: 7) and has always venerated him as the guardian angel of the kingdom of Christ on earth, as the heavenly leader in the fight against all enemies of God. For this reason he was the special patron of Christian soldiers fighting against pagan armies. In the fierce battles of the imperial troops against the heathen Magyars in Bavaria (933 and 955) Saint Michael’s help was invoked by all fighters with prayer and song and battle cry, and the victory was gratefully attributed to him. Leader of the army of God during the Lucifer uprising. Devotion is common to Muslims, Christians and Jews, and there are writings about him in all three cultures. Considered the guardian angel of Israel, and the guardian and protector of the Church. In the Book of Daniel (12:1), Michael is described as rising up to defend the Church against the Anti-Christ.”

Extract from KYRGYZSTAN First Bishop Installed As Head Of Local Church: “BISHKEK (July 6, 2006) – On July 2, Jesuit Father Alexander Kan, head of the former sui iuris (self-governing) mission of Kyrgyzstan, turned over his duties to Jesuit Bishop Nikolaus Messmer, the new apostolic administrator. The Church in this Central Asian country was elevated to an apostolic administration on March 18, 2006. From 1989 to 1997, then-Father Messmer served as parish priest of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Bishkek. At his installation, the bishop thanked his parents for bringing up their children as “dignified Catholics.” All three of his brothers are priests, two of them Jesuits, and his three sisters are nuns. St. Michael the Archangel, the only Catholic church in Kyrgyzstan, was built in 1969 by ethnic Germans. Kyrgyzstan has about 5 million people, 75 percent of them Muslims and close to 20 percent members of the Russian Orthodox Church.”
